Description

I decided tonight that I would try and find and also image NGC 559. I'd like to thank Gary Imm

for pointing this open cluster out to me when he posted his beautiful image of this object to

Astrobin. I made a comment to Gary that I couldn't understand why I hadn't stumbled upon

this object considering the amount of time I've spent the last 40 years poking around Cassiopeia

with my scopes. Well I discovered tonight why I haven't stumbled upon this object. It is

very small and most of the stars in the cluster are relatively dim. In my AT72ED Refractor I

could not really tell that I was viewing an open cluster. I could see three bright stars and there

was a very, very dim haziness surrounding the stars. I'm a fan of open star clusters. I did not

always feel that way but for the past several years they have become my favorite objects to view

and to image. With all of that said please enjoy my first image of NGC 559.
